CARMEN, Surigao del Sur -- The troops of the 36th Infantry Battalion recovered high-powered firearms after the clash engaging around 15 members of the communist NPA terrorists (CNTs) in Sitio Hubason, San Vicente, Carmen, Surigao del Sur on March 29, around 5:30pm.

In a press statement, the government troops recovered one M16 with one short magazine; one Cal .45 pistol (Rock Island) with one magazine; one Carbine rifle with one magazine; one Cal .22 rifle and one magazine and rifle scope (Bushnell brand); one magazine of AK 47, seven 40mm GL ammo; 64 live AK47 ammo; nine live M14 ammo; two live M16 ammo; 70 empty M16 ammo; six empty M14 ammo; four IED with paraphernalia; six detonating cords; six blasting caps, and 50 meters of black wire.

Some personal belongings including five camouflage backpacks, five keypad cell phones, two versa VHF/UHF handheld radios, assorted medical paraphernalia, assorted rations, subversive documents, one power bank, and one smartphone were also recovered in the area.

The government troops believed that there were wounded CNTs scampering the area due to the bloodstain in the encounter site.

According to 36IB Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Michael Rey Reuyan, the skirmish that happened was a result of relentless combat operations and the support of the communities as well that aided the government troops’ timely information with the presence of the CNTs.

“Nagpapasalamat kami sa suporta at impormasyong ibinahagi ng mga taga Carmen, upang ating matunton ang pinagtataguan ng mga teroristang grupo. Nawa’y patuloy niyong suportahan ang ating mga kasundaluhan sa ating misyon na panatilihin ang kapayapaan sa Surigao del Sur,” Lt Col Reuyan said. (36th Infantry Battalion, PA/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
