BUTUAN CITY -- Maintaining peace and order is everybody's concern.
This was emphasized by Lieutenant Colonel Reynald Romel Goce, commanding officer of 26th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army, as he elaborated the significant programs and projects of the government for the local residents.
Goce stressed that the programs and projects to include the farm-to-market roads and other infra developments that were established particularly in the far-flung barangays of the said province formed part of the implementation of Executive Order No. 70 or the whole-of-nation approach to end local communists armed conflict.
“With the developments that were established in the different municipalities and cities here in the province of Agusan del Sur, locals have become more active and participative in the government’s campaign and initiatives. They immediately report to the authorities when they notice the presence of the New People’s Army in their respective barangays,” said Goce.
Mayor Phoebe Corvera of San Luis, and Mayor Pauline Masendo of Talacogon in Agusan del Sur are among the local chief executives who have seen the great impact of EO 70 especially to their constituents in the barangays identified as geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) that also benefited from the ELCAC funds.
Mayor Masendo highlighted that the indigenous peoples (IPs) are now active in advocating the government's campaign against insurgency. (JPG/PIA-Agsuan del Sur)
