2 rebels die in clash with gov't troops in SurSur town

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- Two members of communist NPA terrorist (CNTs) died in a clash against the government troops of the 36 Infantry Battalion (36IB), Philippine Army, Friday, April 29, at Barangay Nurcia, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur.

The recovery of one M16 rifle and one Cal. 45 pistol in the encounter site was also reported after the exchange of fires at around 3pm, which lasted for about 10 minutes.

The government troops responded accordingly to the report they received regarding the presence of the CNTs planned for the extortion of the campaign rallies of the politicians in the area.

Lt. Col. Michael Rey S. Reuyan, commanding officer of 36IB, said that with the help and support of Surigaonons, they will continue their pursuit operations against CNTs to pre-empt their extortion activity and terroristic acts.

The official added that the encounter that happened in Barangay Nurcia will serve as an eye-opener to the remaining CNTs who still refuse to surrender.

“This may be the outcome they may also end up with, therefore it is best that you end armed conflict now, return to your families, surrender yourself, and take control of your life," Reuyan said. (Civil-Military Operations, 36th Infantry Battalion, PA/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
