BUTUAN CITY -- The mining companies in Caraga region are eyeing to expand the bamboo plantation as part of their effort to continuously protect the environment and sustain the rich natural resources.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) led the planting of bamboo trees to some 836 hectares of allotted land in the region.
According to Christie Apale of MGB-Caraga, amid the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the mining companies were able to manage the bamboo plantation.
More than 250 hectares of land were already planted with bamboo trees covering the first semester of 2021.
“This is not for economic purposes, but for the protection of our environment especially in the mining areas,” said Apale.
Meanwhile, per report from the national greening program coordinator, more than 183,000 hectares of land were already planted with different variety of trees. (JPG/NCLM/PIA-Caraga)
