Caraga farmers, fisherfolks receive Fuel Discount Card
BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga together with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Caraga successfully launch its Fuel Discount Program for corn farmers and fisherfolks, today, June 22, 2022, at the DA-Regional Office, Butuan City.
A total of 351 corn farmers and fisherfolks from Butuan City, Buenavista, Nasipit, and Carmen Agusan del Norte received today the Fuel Discount Card.
The fuel subsidy is an aid for farmers and fishermen in the region who own and operate agricultural and fishing machinery in the face of rising fuel prices caused by the pandemic and aggravated by the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
The partner institution, Universal Storefront Services Corporation (USSC), provided gasoline discount payment cards worth P3000. The discount cards can only be used to purchase fuel at approved and accredited partner fuel stations.
Gracing the ceremonial turn-over of the discount cards were DA-Caraga Regional Executive Director Engr. Ricardo M. OΓ±ate, Jr., BFAR-Caraga Regional Director Dr. Nilo Selim Kadata, Sectoral Chairperson for Rice and Corn Antonio Cabrera of Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council, Area Manager Vernie Cugay of USSC Eastern Mindanao, Field Operations Division Chief Melody Guimary of DA-Caraga, and other guests.
"We wholeheartedly thank you all that despite the effect of the pandemic and war between Russia and Ukraine, you continue to pay heed on farming and fishing. So, we, in the Department of Agriculture strive and look for ways to back you up, through this Fuel Discount Program,"Director OΓ±ate, Jr., said.
According to Guimary, a total of 1,616 corn farmers are the target beneficiaries, while BFAR targeted 2,186 fisherfolks as recipients of the program region-wide.
Another distribution of the subsidy is
happening today, June 22 at Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte. This activity will
continue to deliver to the recipients of lgu Talacogon and to
adjacent municipalities of Lapaz, and San Luis in Agusan del Sur on June 23.
