Caraganon stakeholders to join 48th Nutrition Month activities

BUTUAN CITY – The different stakeholders
in Caraga region will be participating in the activities set for this year’s 48th Nutrition
Month Regional Launching on July 4, 2022 at SM City Butuan.
According to Dr. NiΓ±o Archie Labordo, officer-in-charge/ Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator of National Nutrition Council (NNC) Caraga, reiterated that the Nutrition Month is an annual campaign held every July to create greater awareness among Filipinos on the importance of nutrition as provided under Presidential Decree 491, or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines. “The law also mandates the National Nutrition Council to lead and coordinate the nationwide campaign,” he said.
“The campaign calls for a collective
effort to improve nutrition as we move forward to a better new normal. The
campaign aims to: 1) raise the awareness of the importance of nutrition in
building resilience and recovery from the pandemic; 2) stimulate discussions
among stakeholders of nutrition in building resilience and recovery from the
pandemic; and 3) engage various sectors and the public in activities that
promote nutrition,” bared Labordo.
Dr. Labordo added that the regional
launching will start with a motorcade within the city thoroughfares at 8:30
a.m. After which, a short program will follow at SM City Butuan, and the press
conference.
During the program, Dr. Cesar Cassion,
chairperson of Regional Nutrition Committee and regional director of the
Department of Health (DOH) Caraga will deliver his welcome message.
The unveiling of Nutrition Month logo and
ribbon-cutting will also be led by the following: Dr. Cassion of DOH; Director
Lilibeth Famacion of the Department of the Interior and Local Government
(DILG); Director Ricardo OΓ±ate of the Department of Agriculture (DA); Dr.
Labordo of NNC; and Ms. Kristine Joy Baritua of SM City Butuan.
Among other officials, newly-elect
Governor Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba of Agusan del Norte will deliver her
message of support during the event. Participating sectors will also join in
the pledge of commitment while Dr. Cassion will lead the oath-taking ceremony
of the Caraga MOVERS officers.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the
theme “New normal na nutrisyon, sama-samang gawan ng solusyon!” The theme calls
for strengthened nutrition interventions and solidarity towards nutrition
improvement as the country shifts towards living with the COVID-19 virus. It
also signifies the key role of nutrition in building resilience from pandemic
