BUTUAN
CITY -- The Department Of Education (DepEd) Butuan City Division does not only
ensure that pupils are getting proper nutrition but also seeing to it that
reading comprehension is being improved.
This was emphasized during the conduct of Brigada Pagbasa Caravan in Butuan City.
According
to Dr. Marilou Dedumo, Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Butuan City
Division, there are still pupils and students not only in the elementary level
but also in the secondary who have difficulty in reading.
The
DepEd Butuan City Division has initiated the establishment of various programs
and interventions to improve the performance of the learners and make them more
productive not only in academics but also in their daily life.
“We
need to step up and double our efforts in ensuring that our learners are able
to improve their reading proficiency. That’s why we have been engaging with
other sectors to realize and achieve what we always wanted our children to
become as they grow,” she said.
With
collaborations from the different government agencies, local government units,
and private sector, there have been notable programs established such as the
"Basa Batang Butuanon Drive" and the Project VIBER or the Virtual
Intervention for Beginning Reader, among others.
Meanwhile,
the DepEd also urged parents to take time reading with their children and make
it a habit at home.
“Reading with your children would not only make them love reading as a habit, but also create close ties with them,” added Dedumo. (JPG/PIA-Caraga)
