6 FRs in Surigao Norte receive financial assistance from DSWD
BUTUAN CITY -- Six former rebels (FRs) in the province of Surigao del Norte recently received assistance under the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Police Provincial Office, Surigao City.
Each former rebel received a grant of P20,000 on Tuesday (December 20) which they will use as a seed capital fund to start a livelihood activity.
The provision of livelihood grants is part of the DSWD’s implementation of Executive Order 70, series of 2018, which provides financial assistance to eligible FRs.
Provincial Director Laudemer M. Laude expressed his sincere gratitude for the support of other partners such as the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Provincial Local Government Unit of Surigao del Norte for the technical assistance.
The FRs were thankful for the assistance which they said will make their family happy this Yuletide.
Police Colonel Laude encouraged other rebels to return to the fold of the law and assured them that assistance will come their way if they choose to do so.
"We would like to encourage their former comrades so that they might be as well motivated to leave the armed movement and go back to the folds of government. The government is working for them to reach their dreams and ambitions," Laude said. (SDNPPO/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
