AgSur guv shares relief goods to flood-affected areas
One thousand, seven hundred sixteen families in four barangays within the municipalities of Talacogon and La Paz particularly Barangay Sabang Gibong, Maharlika and La Flora in Talacogon and Barangay Sabang Adgawan in La Paz, who were affected by floods received relief goods from the provincial government led by Governor Santiago Cane, Jr.
The flood was caused by the continuous rains that hit the province
recently, which brought great effects to the living condition of the barangay
residents in the above-mentioned barangays.
Maria Lalisan, a resident of Barangay Sabang Gibong said that they even
celebrated Christmas like ordinary days when they were supposed to celebrate
the holidays in a joyful manner.
According to Maria Lalisan, she has lived in the area for more than 50
years now and they can predict when the planting season will be. But since the
last two years ago until now, they seldom do the planting because of the
unpredictable climate caused by climate change.
Because of the situation, the provincial government distributed relief
goods to the residents of the above-mentioned barangays.
Riding in a jet ski, Gov. Cane hopped from one barangay to the other,
while personally distributing the relief goods, and at the same time seeing and
assessing the situation to ensure that all the people in the affected area will
not experience and suffer hunger. The governor was assisted by the
personnel from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office
(PSWDO).
Anatolia Cagumay and Bertmar Morta, both residents of Barangay
Maharlika, Talacogon, expressed the joy and gratitude they feel for the help
extended to them by the provincial government and Team Eddiebong saying they
feel the sincere concern of the government for people in need and particularly
in their area. (David M. Suyao, PPIO-Agusan del Sur with reports from Arfylle
