CAAP inaugurates Butuan Airport's P24.5-M building project
BUTUAN CITY -- The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) inaugurated on Wednesday (March 8) Butuan Airport's building project that is seen to provide safe and comfortable transport experience to the flying public in the region.
The P24.5-million infrastructure project covered the the expansion, repair, and construction of the airport's new terminal building.
Due to the expansion, the airport can now accomodate 616 passengers, an increase from the 248-passenger capacity in the previous years. Moreover, the newly-constructed airport building can now house one more passenger plane in addition to two existing facilities. Repairs to damaged airport amenities and structures were also completed for the safety and comfort of the passengers.
Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports Roberto Cecilio Lim, CAAP Director-General Manuel Antonio Tamayo with Chief Financial Officer Marianne Raymundo, and CAAP Caraga General Manager Evangeline F. Daba led Wednesday's inauguration ceremony that was attended by representatives from national government agencies, city government officials, and other key stakeholders.
Usec. Lim congratulated the CAAP Caraga for the success of the project of the airport, which he described as "magnet for economic activity" and "part of the DOTr's overall strategy to create a backroom for trade and commerce and connectivity."
"The additional airport is part of the commitment of this administration to provide more infrastructure, as stated by Secretary Jaime Bautista to provide the flying public safe, convenient, secure, and comfortable transport experience," Lim said.
In his message, Director-General Tamayo expressed Butuan City's potential to become a major gateway not just in Caraga Region but in Mindanao after it expands its airport to cater more passangers and upgrade its services to provide the flying public a safe and comfortable travel.
He also recognized the full cooperation of the city government with the Transportation department for the realization of the project and for the latter's mission to provide the commuting public a safer journey to different parts of the country.
CAAP Caraga General Manager Daba said the project is part of the "Build, Build, Build" flagship program of then-President Rodrigo Duterte under which airport modernization was prioritized.
