PMO Surigao joins the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill 2023
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte --In support of the government’s initiative on disaster preparedness, the Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao participated in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for 2023.
The activity is the first face-to-face evacuation drill since the start of CoViD-19 pandemic. Personnel from ports under the PMO’s jurisdiction such as the Port of Surigao (Baseport), as well as those from the Terminal Management Offices (TMOs) of Dapa, Tandag, Dinagat, and Lipata, COA staff and port clients, actively joined other agencies and offices nationwide in the disaster preparedness exercise spearheaded by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC).
PMO Surigao’s employees executed the basic “duck, cover and hold” technique with the signal of the alarm. The employees proceeded then to the designated evacuation area and the Incident Management Team was then activated. The accounting of all personnel followed and the Damage Control/Search and Rescue Team was activated to access the building. Once the area was cleared, all personnel were directed to return to their respective stations.
The 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill evaluated the PMO Incident Management Team's disaster and emergency preparedness and validated its contingency plans. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA- Surigao del Norte)
