Montemor shared that this year’s celebration kicked off on March 6, 2023, wherein different stakeholders and representatives from the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) convened during the opening ceremony of the said celebration with the theme, "WE for gender equality and inclusive society."
This program was hosted by the Provincial Committee Against Trafficking - Violence Against Women and their Children (PCAT-VAWC) that is composed of different agencies and partners including the Foundation for the Development of Every Agusanon, Inc. (FDEAI).
"This month is a reminder to celebrate women's milestones and their extraordinary roles in all spheres of society. It is also the month to call for gender equality. Women's Month is a month-long celebration to recognize and acknowledge women in all appearances, contributions, roles, and perspectives around the world," Montemor emphasized.
The PSWDO also conducted another activity entitled "Bazaar ni Juana at Anak," which was held on March 14 to 16, 2023 at Gaisano Grand, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur. The said event served as one of the spotlight activities of PSWDO in this 2023 National Women's Month celebration as the women local producers presented their products through a parade. In the second day of the activity, the FDEAI joined in conducting advocacies promoting children and women laws, as well as conduct of film showing regarding cyber crimes awareness.
"This activity promotes the rights of every woman for equality not just only in our locality but also the entire country and to the world as well. We are doing the right things that will make us proud of ourselves as a women in our community. If men can do, of course women also can," shared Montemor.
"If ever you have experienced being harassed, sexually molested, abused, or any form of violence, please report it immediately to our office, for the proper filing of cases and the perpetuator will be punished," Montemor added.
She also discussed the initiatives and strategies of the Provincial Government in the campaign against Violence Against Women and their Children.
"The PGAS, through PSWDO, planned for the interventions to women and children who experienced violence and abuse, including the awareness of mental health problems such as depression, frustration, anxieties, conflicts, and other related mental health issues and concerns," Montemor concluded.
