DA begins construction of biosecure facility
SAN MIGUEL, Surigao del Sur -- The construction of
biosecure facility for a 300-capacity community-based swine production,
repopulation, and expansion project in the local government unit of San Miguel,
Surigao del Sur has started, as implemented by the Department of Agriculture
(DA) Caraga with project cost of P4.5 million, including the
construction of swine housing, farm office and feed storage, which is
funded under the Integrated
National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE)
program.
The INSPIRE program is the recovery and repopulation program of the DA for the hog sector, directly responding to the needs of the industry, given the African Swine Fever (ASF) problem.
Further, the INSPIRE program offers mixed interventions to jumpstart and revive the significantly dying swine industry, focusing on increasing swine inventory and breeder base. It also includes the implementation of biosecurity plans anchored on the program, "Bantay ASF sa Barangay or BABAy ASF. " (PIA-Surigao del Sur)
