Over 3k Surigao Norte farmers, fisherfolk get P11.9M TUPAD salaries
BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Labor and Employment
Surigao del Norte Field Office (DOLE SDNFO) conducted a cash payout to
3,410 beneficiaries of Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating
Displaced/Disadvantage Workers (TUPAD) on the first half of March this
year.
A total of 1,400
beneficiaries from the municipalities of San Francisco, Mainit,
Gigaquit, Tubod, and the City of Surigao in the province's second
district, and 2,010 beneficiaries from the municipality of Socorro from
the first district received P3,500 each on March 6 to 8 and March 17 to
18, respectively. The TUPAD beneficiaries received a total of
P11,931,500 from SDNFO for the 10-day emergency work they completed
which included declogging canals, cleaning up the coast, and other
community projects.
The
TUPAD beneficiaries are mostly fishermen and farmers whose livelihood
was greatly affected by flash floods and heavy rains caused by the
series of low pressure areas (LPAs) that hit the province during the
first quarter of this year.
“Mapasalamaton
ako sa DOLE tungod kay ini na kwarta dako kaayo nga tabang sa ako nga
usa ka mananagat. Salamat karajaw sa TUPAD nga programa, naa na kami
pamalit ug bugas labi na kuman kay sige nag uyan (I'm grateful to DOLE
for the money which is a huge help for me as a fisherman. Thank you for
the TUPAD program, we can now buy rice)," said Harold Coniato, a TUPAD
beneficiary from Socorro.
“Isip
usa ka maguuma, salamat TUPAD og DOLE sa amo grasya. Dako sa ini nga
tabang sa amoa (As a farmer, I'm thankful for the TUPAD and to DOLE for
the blessings. This is a huge help for us),” said Clarito Banacia from
San Francisco town.
TUPAD
is a community-based package of aid from DOLE that offers temporary
employment to seasonal, underemployed, and displaced workers. This is a
program of the government that provides immediate intervention during
