DOH kicks off vaccination of measle, rubella, polio in Tandag
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur -- The Department of Health - Center for Health
Development (DOH CHD) Caraga led by Assistant Regional Director, Sadaila K.
Raki-in, graced the grand launching of Measles-Rubella – Oral Polio Vaccine
Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA), hosted by the City Government
of Tandag headed by Mayor Roxanne C. Pimentel today, May 3 at Dagocdoc, Covered
Court, Tandag City.
DOH provincial office led by Dr. Glynna B. Andoy, and the provincial government
of Surigao del Sur, through the Provincial Health Office headed by Dr. Eric T.
Montesclaros, also took their part as they joined the activity.
Some 100 kids from Barangay Dagocdoc were immunized during the activity.
The kids also received giveaways and were able to avail of Vitamin A
supplementation.
The month-long activity aims to prevent impending outbreaks of
Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs) and to address the continuous increase of
measle cases in the country by protecting children from 9 to 59 months old.
The vaccine supplemental immunization activity protects the children against
measles and rubella with the vaccination of one dose of the Measles-Rubella
vaccine, while children from 0- to 59 months old will get protection from
poliovirus type 1 and 3 with the vaccination of one dose of bivalent Oral Polio
Vaccine.
Meanwhile, the same activity was launched in some municipalities and in
Bislig City on May 2, 2023, all in Surigao del Sur. (PIA-Surigao del Sur)
