Pupils undergo waste management training
SAN MIGUEL, Surigao del Sur -- The local government unit of San Miguel, Surigao
del Sur through the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO)
headed by Forester Ermalyn J. Ganas sponsored a one day training-workshop on
Waste Recycling in accordance to Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid
Waste Management Act of 2000, held at Carromata Elementary School on May 3.
As part of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Information Education
Campaign, pupils were taught on effective waste management practices
including the proper recycling of waste especially on plastics.
A total of 400 participants from Grades 1 to 6 together with the faculty
members of Carromata Elementary School attended the said training workshop
wherein a series of plastic recycling outputs were presented like eco bricks,
plastic vase with flowers, plastic coconut tree, and others.
Carromata Elementary School principal Minerba Dapar expressed gratitude to
Mayor Michael Corilla and MENRO personnel for the training workshop they
conducted to help their pupils understand and appreciate environmental
protection with economic pursuits and re-orient them on solid waste as the
activity provided schemes for waste minimization, volume reduction, resource
