PMO Surigao celebrates Environment Month through street, coastal clean up

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Port Management Office of Surigao of the Philippine Ports Authority has once again demonstrated its commitment to environmental stewardship by organizing a quarterly street and coastal clean-up activity at the Port of Surigao along the picturesque Bilang-Bilang Bay.

The event, which coincided with the nationwide celebration of the Philippine Environment Month, took place on a Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 6:00 a.m.

The initiative extended beyond Surigao City, with simultaneous clean-up efforts taking place at other port terminals namely, TMO-Lipata and TMO-Dapa. Various stakeholders from the port community actively participated in the endeavor, including the Surigao Porters Association, shipping lines/agents, Global Port Surigao Terminal Inc., Philippine Navy reservists, and the Surigao City Nickel Eagles Club - Caraga Region 13.

With a shared objective to protect and preserve the environment, volunteers worked diligently to clear the area from waste and debris. Together, they managed to collect an impressive total of seven sacks of garbage. Each sack was meticulously sorted and appropriately disposed to ensure that the impact on the environment was minimized.

Proclamation No. 237, issued by the late President Corazon C. Aquino on April 4, 1988, declared the month of June as the Philippine Environment Month, calling on citizens to dedicate their time and effort to safeguarding and nurturing the environment. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
