DTI conducts training on food processing of coconut by-products in PDI

SAN JOSE, Dinagat Islands -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Dinagat Islands through the Coconut Farmer and Industry Development Plan (CFIDP) conducted a two-day Training on Food Processing for Coconut By-Products cum Packaging and Labelling on June 6 to 7, 2023 at D'Hydroponics Farm, Barangay DoΓ±a Helene in Basilisa, province of Dinagat Islands.

The training discussed the following processed by-products namely, nata de coco, coco chips, desiccated coconut, vinegar, and buko juice, to the 15 coconut farmers and other micro, small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) from the municipalities of Basilisa, Cagdianao, Dinagat, San Jose, Tubajon, and Loreto, all of this province.

The training helped the local coconut farmers to increase their income by promoting coconut by-products and processing. It also gave the participants better knowledge and comprehension on processed food and the market segments for coconut by-products, and for them to understand issues to consider when marketing the products effectively, and subsequently will create sustainable businesses for the participants.

Sylvia T. Aguhob, food technologist and former head of the Food Innovation Center, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, served as the resource person of the activity.

The said activity is in partnership with the One Town One Product (OTOP) program and the negosyo centers. (DTI-Dinagat Islands/PIA-Dinagat Islands)
