New, modern war ships of PH Navy bolster maritime security

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao of the Philippine Navy commemorated the 125th Philippine Independence Day with an Arrival Ceremony of the two cutting-edge Multi-Purpose Attack Crafts (MPACs) on June 12, 2023 at the Port of Surigao

These state-of-the-art vessels, measuring 17 meters in length, 4.76 meters in width, and with a draft of 0.92 meters, are part of the navy's new generation of missile-capable ships, designed to bolster maritime security operations in Surigao City and northeastern Mindanao.

As part of the festivity, an open house and ship tour were organized in collaboration with the Surigao City Tourism and Cultural Office, allowing residents and visitors to explore the intricacies of these technologically advanced vessels. The static display attracted curious onlookers, who marveled at the MPACs' sleek design and robust capabilities.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Navy and the City Tourism and Cultural Office hosted a feeding activity to participating school children at the Port of Surigao. Additionally, educational toys were distributed as courtesy of the Philippine Navy that brought joy and excitement to the young attendees who eagerly embraced the opportunity to witness the up close arrival of these sophisticated naval assets to the fleet.

The introduction of these MPACs showed a significant leap forward for the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao and underscored the commitment of the Philippine Navy to ensuring the safety and security of the nation's waters. With their advanced features and missile-capabilities, the newly acquired vessels will play a pivotal role in safeguarding Surigao City and the surrounding areas, instilling confidence in both the local population and the nation as a whole.
