Flood control project groundbreaks in Carrascal town
CARRASCAL, Surigao del Sur -- To protect the residents in high risk coastal
areas of Surigao del Sur, the Department of Public Works and Highways Regional
Office (DPWH) Caraga, together with the local government officials led the
groundbreaking of the construction of a Flood Mitigation Structure project on
July 10, 2023, in Barangay Doyos in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur.
Barangay Doyos is a community situated along Doyos River that is often reached
by high river water especially during successive heavy rains and unfavorable
weather conditions that result to flood.
Surigao del Sur First District Representative and House Committee chair on
Public Works and Highways, Engr. Romeo S. Momo Sr., Mayor Vicente H. Pimentel
III, DPWH regional office Engr. Jerome S. Mezo, and other local
officials, attended the said launching in the presence of several residents.
Funded under the fiscal year 2023 regular infra, the Flood Mitigation Structure
has a total length of 330.78 linear meters with reinforcing steel, concrete
facing, and foundation of structural steel sheet piles, with a total cost of
P105,079,573.29.
The construction of the slope protection structure started on May 29, 2023, and
is expected to complete on December 24, 2023. (DPWH-13/NGPB, PIA-Surigao del
