Gov't programs uphold betterment of child laborers, parents
Anchored on the theme, "Buong Bansa, Lahat ng Bata, Sama-Sama Para sa Batang Malaya," the profiled child laborers were given school supplies and utensils through the Child Labor Prevention and Elimination Program (CLPEP) Project Angel Tree Program, made possible by the generous benefactors and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
Additionally, fifty parents of child laborers received their salaries under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. Also, a total of P1.4 million was provided to them by LGU-Esperanza as startup capital for the various livelihood undertakings of the parent- beneficiaries.
DOLE ADSFO Head Maximo C. Magallen shared his hopes to end child labor. "Child labor has greatly affected our children. This prevents them from enjoying their rights, such as the right to quality education and enjoying their childhood. I hope we will continue to address the needs of these child laborers and their parents as we aim for a child labor-free society," Magallen added.
DOLE remains steadfast in its mission to protect the rights of the children and provide opportunities for their holistic development. Through the programs on CLPEP, DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), and TUPAD, the DOLE affirms its commitment to nurture a future where every child has access to quality education and every family can thrive through dignified and sustainable livelihood.
