CARMEN, Surigao del Sur -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Surigao del Sur through the Negosyo Center in Cantilan town successfully conducted an awareness seminar on Business Continuity Plan and Financing Forum to 50 members of the Carmen Business Club on July 27, 2023 at Farmer's Training Center, Poblacion, Carmen in Surigao del Sur.

The activities, in collaboration with the local government unit of Carmen through Municipal Mayor Jane V. Plaza and Carmen Business Club President Engr. Virgilio J. Bomediano, were initiated and highlighted in celebration of the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) Week with the theme, "Upgrade, Upskill, and Upsize MSMEs.”

Jan Lehven G. Mantiza, trade industry and development  specialist of DTI, stated the need for developing a business continuity plan as the strategy, to safeguard business operations, enable them to mitigate risk during emergencies and other disruptions, and aid them to resume regular operations.

Furthermore, DTI senior TIDS Jonathan V. Lagang of the Consumer Protection Division conducted advocacy highlighting the rights and responsibilities of the consumers.

During the forum, the participating MSMEs were given a presentation on the breadth of financing services and loan programs available from the collaborating financing institutions, which included Cantilan Bank, Socorro Empowered Peoples Cooperative, BDO Network Bank, and Small Business Corporation. The said forum provided MSMEs a place to access more financial resources and establish connections with possible conduits.

As wrap up, participants appreciated the learning from this said initiative, as one commented, “The business owners of Carmen are very privileged to gain helpful information from this seminar. Thank you DTI.” (Vaneza T. dela Torre, NC Cantilan/DTI/NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
