Former rebels receive livelihood toolkits in Gigaguit town
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte - Some 28 former rebels (FRs) received agricultural tools from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) - Surigao del Norte, during the recent distribution of agronomics toolkits at 30IB headquarters, Brgy. Mahanub, Gigaquit town in Surigao del Norte.
According to TESDA provincial director Catalina O. Tacuba, each agronomics toolkit contained items such as pick mattock, knapsack sprayer, rake, post hole digger and pruning shear.
"The distribution of the said toolkits is part of the agronomics training package implemented by TESDA - Surigao del Norte that is intended for the former rebels. This is helpful as they integrate into the mainstream society," Dir. Tacuba said.
Accordingly, TESDA, being the lead agency of the provincial task force to end local communist armed conflict (PTF-ELCAC), through its livelihood training committee, has lined-up programs and capacity training for FRs for implementation, to prepare and equip them with skills and eventually for job placement.
On his part, Lieutenant Jerold Jale, 30th Infantry Battalion commanding officer, expressed his profound gratitude as he also assured that the 30IB troops will remain resilient and will work collaboratively with all the various agencies to sustain the gains and protect the welfare of the FRs.
"First of all, I am very grateful to our "friends rescued" for returning to the bosom of the law and trusting the soldiers of 30IB, and I am also grateful to the TESDA and the provincial training center in their programs for our brothers and sisters who awakened from exploitation and violence, because the tool agricultural toolkits will greatly help them as they start a new life in peace." Lt. Jale said. (with reports from 30IB-Philippine Army/SDR, PIA-Surigao del Norte)
