DTI capacitates coffee farmers in Agusan Sur
AGUSAN DEL SUR -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Rural Agro-enterprise Partnerships for Inclusive Development (RAPID) and Growth Project in Agusan del Sur continued to strengthen the coffee industry in the province by facilitating activities for advanced training on coffee post-harvest management through the coffee green grading and sensory analysis training for San Jose–Maasin Coffee Farmers Association (SMACOFA) in Esperanza on November 13, and Hillstribe Economic Development Farmers Association (HEDFA) in Bayugan City on November 14.
The training enhanced the knowledge and skills of coffee farmers in grading and analyzing the quality of coffee beans. With proper grading and sensory analysis, farmers will be able to produce high-quality coffee beans that meet the standards of the local and international markets.
Participants were also introduced to the different grading standards and classifications used in the coffee industry, as well as the factors that affect the quality of coffee beans.
The DTI RAPID Growth Project is committed to supporting the development of the coffee industry in Agusan del Sur and empowering coffee farmers with the necessary skills and knowledge to improve their livelihood.
The two-day training session was facilitated by Anthony Mark S. CataloΓ±a, VCF for Coffee, Alex R. Macarine, M&E assistant, Engr. Renato S. Corvera, supervising trade industry development specialist and Mark Anthony Balahay who served as resource person for coffee green grading and sensory analysis training for two farmers’ organizations.
