Caraga LGUs fetch MSU students following Sunday’s bombing

By Renelle L. Escuadro

BUTUAN CITY --- Local governments in the Caraga region immediately dispatched teams to fetch Caraga residents studying in the Mindanao State University – main campus in Marawi City which was rocked by a deadly improvised explosive device (IED) on Dec. 3.

LGUs in the region proactively responded to the call of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for law enforcements and other concerned agencies of the government to ensure the protection and security of the victims of the bombing, their affected families and the vulnerable communities.

The city government of Butuan coordinated with its counterpart in Iligan City to facilitate the safe exit of Butuanons from the MSU campus.

On the other hand, the town of Buenavista in Agusan del Norte sent off its quick response team under the program “Oplan Sundo,” with two transport vehicles to rescue the stranded and wary Agusanons who sought for immediate shelter and comfort from loved ones.

Other LGUs in Caraga also provided transport assistance to their respective MSU students so they could safely return to their hometown as the school declared the immediate suspension of classes.

On December 6, students from MSU safely arrived in the Province of Dinagat Islands (PDI) as the provincial government headed by Governor Nilo Demerey Jr., through the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC), PDI Police Provincial Office and Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, and Remedy Aksyon Center provided a repatriation team to fetch the Dinagatnons and brought them home to their respective families.
