Buenavista highlights little town officials during children’s month
BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte -- Mayor Joselito T. Roble congratulated and warmly welcomed the young leaders of the town led by little Mayor Venice A. CaΓ±on.
The other little officials include Vice Mayor: Christian Lee R. Sistona; SB secretary Jana Portuguese; SB members: Alliah Q. Salazar, Rochelle Ann Salcon, Mike John B. Tiempo, Nova Mae P. Magalona, Joehanna Christa B. Alloso, Jacob P. Jaranilla, Chloe Ysabel P. Saubon, and Renz Lester Abad.
The lineup of young leaders was part of the National Children's Month which is observed annually in the country every month of November. This month-long celebration gave Filipino children access to a healthy environment, good education, and healthcare. Children in the municipality, as a whole, are under the care of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) headed by Bernadita N. Quijano.
Mayor Roble presented the accomplishments of the LGU to underprivileged children in the municipality especially in addressing the plight of Badjao children, and the challenges over children in conflict with the law (CICLs). The mayor mentioned that Buenavista is recognized as a “Child-friendly Municipality” and the election of the young leaders made the municipality eligible in the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) where LGUs are assessed using the indicators categorized under the four (4) core rights of children, namely, survival, development, protection, and participation.
MSWDO Operations Officer, Geno Matondo provided the mayor with program details from supervision through assisting the young leaders in implementing activities in the months ahead. The young leaders were also presented to the Sangguniang Bayan earlier where they observed actual proceedings of the SB members in session.
The assembly and election of young leaders from 12 to 15 years old coming from the different schools were recently conducted at the covered court of Brgy. 8 of this town, as supervised by the MSWDO. (MLGU Buenavista/PIA-Agusan del Norte)
