TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur – The city government of Tandag, under the leadership of Mayor Roxanne Pimentel, has been declared a Consistent Regional Outstanding Winner in Nutrition (CROWN) by the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
The recognition
underscored the city's sustained efforts in championing nutrition and fostering
a healthy community as it formulated the ten pillars of development, of which
access to health care and nutrition served as an integral accomplishment that
allowed the city to fully implement and deliver nutrition and related services
to Tandaganons.
During the
pandemic and recovery years, the city government ensured nutrient sufficiency
and nutritionally healthy and self-reliant Tandaganons through the strong
interventions made by the members of its Local Nutrition Committee and
stakeholders in the implementation of nutrition-related programs, projects, and
activities based on the approved City Nutrition Action Plan.
The enactment of
nutrition-related policies was also part of its effort to guarantee program
implementation, such as healthy meals being served to identified recipients
like pregnant women and preschool children during the dietary supplementation
program in the 21 barangays of the city.
Further, Operation
Timbang Plus (OPT Plus) conducted Operation Timbang among children from 0 to 59
months old, including administration of vitamin A supplementation and the
distribution of the micronutrient powder to all its barangays.
In October 2023,
