Explosive disposal, canine group to partner with maritime authority

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team of the Philippine National Police led by Police Lieutenant Joel P. Mancia with Assistant Team leader Police Staff Sergeant Edsil Glen M. Sanchez recently coordinated with the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Region13.

The coordination paved the way for the agency to educate shipping owners and operators, as well as the public, on proper actions to take in the event of bomb threats, explosives, and other related devices, and to strengthen the partnership between the two organizations and enhance the safety and security of the region’s maritime industry.

The team was welcomed by MARINA Caraga Regional Director Ninfa Dominguez-Martinez, together with Supervising Ship Operations Specialist Maria Roselyn P. CastaΓ±o and legal officer, Atty. Sherrylyn Famador.

According to Police Lieutenant Joel P. Mancia, the collaboration will help ensure that the public is well-informed about the proper procedures to follow in case of emergencies.

He said the Explosive Ordnance Division will provide training and support to MARINA Region 13 to help them develop effective safety protocols and this will help ensure that the region’s maritime industry is better prepared to handle any potential threats and that the public is kept safe.

"This is a great example of how collaboration between different organizations can help improve safety and security in the community,” Mancia said.

We applauded the efforts of the Explosive Ordnance Division of the Philippine National Police and MARINA Region 13 in working together to enhance the safety of the region’s maritime industry." Mancia added. (MARINA-13/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
