296 SK treasurers in Surigao Sur receive bookkeeping certificate from TESDA

By Nida Grace P. Barcena

TANDAG, Surigao del Sur – The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) awarded the National Certificate (NC) III to 296 Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) treasurers who completed the mandatory bookkeeping course on Jan. 29 to 30.

TESDA conducted the training program entitled, “Basic Bookkeeping Course for SK Treasurers” to the SK treasurers of the province of Surigao del Sur to make them more competent to perform their duties and responsibilities.

According to Lee Escobal, provincial senior TESD specialist, of the 309 barangays in the province, only 304 participants were endorsed by the local government units, because the other five appointed treasurers already acquired their NC III in the said course, and are qualified to assume their post.

Lee explained, “the 296 participants passed the training, and complied with the requirements of the basic course as of January 5.

The participants were grateful for the knowledge they learned during the two-day activity.

“As one of the trainees, I would like to thank TESDA for giving us the privilege to take this training. I learned the basics of accounting, including entering transactions into a journal, posting them to the ledger, and creating a trial balance,” said John Mark Sorbito, a participant from Barangay Comawas, Bislig City.

“I understood the transactional analysis, how to adjust the entries, and complete the accounting cycle,” he added.

Another trainee Judith Manzano of Barangay Sta Cruz, Marihatag emphasized that they acquired new concepts and methods for organizing and recording transactions which are necessary in their line of work.

“Our experience served as a testament to the importance of education as a vital tool for our progress and success in life,” she said.

With the weather disturbance brought by the trough of the low pressure area (LPA) that affected the entire province the participants had difficulty in connectivity. However, the LGU through the Local Youth Development (LYD) offices in the respective cities and municipalities accommodated the participants and provided them a conducive venue for learning including stable internet access within the duration of the training.

The conduct of the mandatory bookkeeping training for appointed SK treasurers is mandated by Republic Act No. 11768, “An Act Strengthening The Sangguniang Kabataan, Institutionalizing Additional Reforms To Revitalize Youth Participation In Local Governance and By Providing Honorarium, Other Benefits, and Privileges, amending "Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act Of 2015," particularly the mandatory bookkeeping NC III training, and the conduct of the competency assessment and certification.

Those appointed SK treasurers with no experience nor education background need to undergo the mandatory training program on bookkeeping NC III which is available online. (NGPB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
