SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) -- The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) recently launched the Farm Business School (FBS) program in Barangay San Isidro, Placer, Surigao del Norte.
The Farm
Business School aims to help farmers learn how to make farming profitable,
train them to respond to market demands, and develop entrepreneurial skills.
FBS
training is conducted in a classroom setting using eight modules in 25
sessions.
Around 30
members of San Isidro Farmers Agrarian Reform Cooperative (SIFARBECO) are
scheduled to undergo the rigid learning sessions that will ultimately
upskill their farming knowledge, enable their entrepreneurial skills, and
enhance their marketing techniques and ideas.
Surigao
del Norte Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Milagrosa B. Bulawan
explained, “The FBS training sessions will equip and capacitate the farmers
with the necessary entrepreneurial and marketing skills on how to sell their
farm produce and generate a high income.”
“The
participants will be trained on appropriate marketing strategies to become
farmer-entrepreneurs, and we hope that in due time, SIFARBECO members can
increase the volume of their farm produce and forge profitable agri-business
linkages,” Bulawan said.
Placer
Mayor Jovymarie C. Villazon assured the members of SIFARBECO of the full
support of the local government and suggested that more FBS be implemented in
the other barangays of the municipality.
Leonida, a member of SIFARBECO, thanked the DAR for the opportunity to be trained and become entrepreneurs and for other assistance extended to them to make their farms more profitable.
“Malaking
tulong ito sa amin para madagdagan ang aming kaalaman at mapalago ang aming mga
pananim at mga alagang hayop para dagdag kita sa aming pamilya,” the member
shared.
[This is
a big help to us members, as this will increase our knowledge of
entrepreneurship and expand our agricultural products and livestock for
additional income.]
Meanwhile,
a ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement took place between the DAR
and other members of the Local Partners Alliance Group (LPAG), manifesting
their strong support for the program and guaranteeing the success of the
implementation of FBS in Barangay San Isidro.
The LPAG is composed of the municipal local government of Placer, partner agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture and itsAgricultural Training Institute, barangay local government unit of San Isidro, people’s organizations, and local stakeholders.
