BUTUAN CITY (PIA) – A total of 29 people’s organizations (POs) from seven barangays in the municipality of Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte benefitted from microgrants amounting to more than P3 million.
These
barangays were affected by heavy flooding brought by the trough of low pressure
area in February of this year.
The
program on microgrants of Ecosystems Work for Essential Benefits, Inc. (EcoWEB,
Inc.), a non-government organization, in partnership with the National
Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and the local government of Las Nieves, provided
financial assistance to the PO beneficiaries based on the livelihood proposal
submitted by the group.
Marefie Montillano, representative of E.G. Montilla Revive-UP Pass-on Farmers Association (ERPOFA), and also one of the 29 PO beneficiaries, expressed gratitude for the grant extended to their organization.
“Grabe ka
lisod ang among natagamtaman tungod sa pagbaha nga among nasinate sa among
lugar, mao nga kini nga suporta nga among naangkon nakahatag ug kadasig sa amo
nga mga kababayenhan nga magpadayon sa among pagtambayayong,” Montillano
shared.
(We had a
very difficult and traumatic experience because of the flooding in our
community. The support that we received encouraged our women members to continue
to work hard, collaborate, and stay resilient in our group’s endeavor.)
Las Nieves Mayor Karen S. Rosales acknowledged the big contribution of the financial assistance to the affected residents of the municipality, stating, “The financial assistance will help the flood victims to recover and bring back their normal lives.”
“Considering
the limited resources of the municipality, the amount given to the POs was
appreciated. Thank you to the national government, the NAPC, and EcoWEB, Inc.
for the intervention extended to the residents. They can now start building and
recover from the losses due to flooding,” Rosales added.
The turnover of the financial grant was facilitated by EcoWEB, Inc. Executive Director Regina S. Antequisa. (NCLM/PIA-Agusan del Norte)
