Dumadag, recently conducted the accreditation campaign on the Updated Progressive Accreditation System (UPAS) and accreditation help desk in the at Bislig City Cultural and Sports Center (BCCSC).

The activity extensively promoted the DOT mandatory accreditation among primary tourism enterprises and encourage LGUs to campaign for accreditation of secondary tourism enterprises.

Ryan M. Tapayan, senior tourism operations officer and the head of the Standards Development and Enforcement Unit of DOT Caraga spearheaded the accreditation orientation on UPAS, stating, “The vital role that the tourism stakeholders play in shaping a city’s tourism industry and the importance of meeting the DOT standards in the operation of tourism-related enterprises (TREs).”

The UPAS is a three-level recognition scheme of the DOT for the accreditation of the provincial TREs entailing progressive minimum compliance to the international standards of excellence in all tourism facilities and services, namely, basic accreditation, regular accreditation, and premium accreditation.

The event was attended by City Councilor Reynaldo V. Dominguez, committee chairman on Tourism Development, tourism stakeholders, and owner/proprietors of the different TREs in the city. (CIO-Bislig City/NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
