Port of Surigao earns top revenue earner in Mindanao

SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte (PIA) -- For the first time in decades, the Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao finally earned the distinction as the top revenue earner among PMOs in Mindanao.

Port Manager Froilan Caturla bared that the strong performance can be attributed to the revenue generated by private ports within PMO Surigao’s jurisdiction, particularly those operated by mining companies.

He said this surge in income propelled PMO Surigao to the coveted fourth place in the Philippine Ports Authority's (PPA) ranking of top revenue earners nationwide.

"For years, PMO NCR South has consistently held the top spot and did so again in 2023, followed by perennial top earners PMO Batangas and PMO NCR North. Now, PMO Surigao joins this elite group, edging over PMO Davao as it took the fifth position," said Caturla.

Caturla added, the PMO Surigao’s success story goes beyond just reaching its target of P662,163,745.00 for 2023. The PMO not only achieved this goal but also surpassed it by a noteworthy 5 percent, with the final collection figure reaching P695,837,849.89. (PPA-PMO Surigao/PIA- Surigao del Norte)
