SK leaders in Tubajon gather in 1st youth congress

TUBAJON, Dinagat Islands -- The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of the municipality of Tubajon headed by Barangay Mabini SK chairperson and ex officio Sangguniang Bayan member Angel Dezza Pesical spearheaded the 1st Tubajon Youth Congress on June 7-8.

As the first of its kind in the entire province of Dinagat Islands, the activity gathered SK officials and youth leaders from all the barangays of the municipality.

The Tubajon Youth Congress sought to strengthen youth awareness and engagement in governance and environmental protection. Through this convergence, the young community leaders worked together and consolidated the plans recommended by their fellow youth and crafted the Tubajon Youth Agenda and Action Plan for 2024-2025.

The event earned the full support of Mayor Fely Pedrablanca and the municipal government of Tubajon through the Local Youth Development Office headed by Alvin Fred Espinosa, together with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) headed by MLGOO Desiree Bakit.

On day 1, resource speaker Kaka Bag-ao discussed the SK Reform Law, which she authored in the 16th Congress during her stint as a legislature. Other speakers came from different civil society organizations that served as partners of the LGU in the conservation efforts such as the Dinagat Communities for Conservation (DINAGAT C4C), Kaisahan Tungo sa Kaunlaran ng Kanayunan at Repormang Pansakahan (KAISAHAN), Greenpeace Philippines,  Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM),  Philippines Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (PBCFI) ,  and  the Balay Alternative Legal Advocates for Development (BALAOD) of Mindanaw Provincial Board Member Lyn Dialde.

During the finale, the youth leaders had the opportunity to present the Tubajon Youth Agenda and Action Plan for 2024-2025, and elected the officers of the Local Youth Development Council (LYDC). (MIO-Tubajon/PIA-Dinagat Islands)
