Agusan Sur locals join various activities during 126th PH Independence Day

AGUSAN DEL SUR -- Various stakeholders in the province of Agsuan del Sur actively took part in the activities conducted during the 126th Philippine Independence Day celebration on June 12, at the Naliyagan Ground in Patin-ay, Prosperidad of this province.

Among the highlights include the conduct of simultaneous "Serbisyo Agsurnon" activities spearheaded by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Agusan del Sur, World Day Against Child Labor, 32nd Naliyagan Festival 2024 and 57th Founding Anniversary of the province.

The comprehensive services initiative aimed at addressing the employment and livelihood needs of the community featured a range of activities, including a Job Fair, the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) and Government Internship Program (GIP) payout, turnover of livelihood cheques, and Project Angel Tree.

The event commenced with an opening remarks by Divina P. Lagumbay, provincial PESO manager, who expressed her gratitude to all participants, employers, and stakeholders involved in the events. She highlighted the significance of the activities in fostering employment and livelihood opportunities for the residents of Agusan del Sur. Her heartfelt gratitude underscored the collaborative spirit that made the Kalayaan 2024 celebration possible.

Agusan del Sur DOLE Field Office Head Buhawe B. Corvera-Correa introduced the series of activities in "Serbisyo Agsurnon," aligned with the day's celebration objectives. She then presented a message from DOLE Secretary Bienvenido E. Laguesma in commemoration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day.

Congressional representative of the 2nd District of Agusan del Sur Alfelito M. Bascug delivered his messages of solidarity and support for the simultaneous celebration of Independence Day and the Naliyagan Festival 2024. He also emphasized the continuity of services for the Agsurnon in the future across every gender, race, culture, and difference.

The Job Fair attracted job seekers by providing opportunities to connect with potential employers from various sectors. The event featured 22 local companies and seven overseas employers offering 5,313 job vacancies, catering to different skill sets and qualifications. This initiative aimed to bridge the gap between job seekers and employers, facilitating employment and contributing to the reduction of unemployment in the province.

In addition, the event included the payout for the TUPAD and GIP programs. A total of 273 TUPAD beneficiaries from Local Government Unit (LGU)-Prosperidad and LGU-San Francisco, who are disadvantaged or displaced workers, received wages amounting to P5,775 each, totaling P1,576,575 as part of the government's effort to provide temporary employment and support. 

Similarly, some 103 GIPs, who are primarily youth interns, received a total amount of P475,860 as stipends for their involvement in various government projects. These programs are part of DOLE's commitment to promote inclusive growth and provide immediate relief to those in need.

In celebration of the World Day Against Child Labor, the office conducted the "Puhon Dili Karun" exhibit, where 21 profiled child laborers showcased their talent in art through paper and crayons, depicting their dream jobs and future hopes. Additionally, the 20 profiled child laborers and their families received various assistance, including school supplies and kits, drawing materials, grocery items, and rice under the Project Angel Tree program. 

These initiatives underscored the commitment of DOLE and PESO to protect the rights and well-being of children, ensuring they have the opportunity to pursue their dreams and aspirations without the burden of labor.

Turnover of livelihood checks to various beneficiaries also took place during the celebration. LGU-Rosario and LGU-San Francisco received checks as DOLE Accredited Co-Partner (ACP) for their individual DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) beneficiaries composed of 60 parents/guardians of child laborers and exited 4Ps members, amounting to P2,340,000. 

This initiative is part of DOLE's Integrated Livelihood Program, which aims to empower individuals and communities by providing them with the necessary resources to start or expand their businesses. The livelihood assistance is expected to enhance the beneficiaries' economic stability and promote sustainable development within the community. Likewise, 32 establishments and livelihood beneficiaries showcased various commodities and services at the Kadiwa ng Pangulo section. These Agsurnon engaging in business were able to reach total earnings amounting to P30,704.

A service caravan was also organized in partnership with various agencies to provide a one-stop-shop experience for clients during the hiring process, including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - ADS, Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) - ADS, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) - ADS, Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). 

This initiative aimed to streamline the hiring process by offering a range of services, including document processing, certification issuance, and other employment-related assistance. The Service Caravan enabled job seekers to complete necessary procedures efficiently and conveniently, enhancing their overall experience and increasing their chances of successful employment.

The "Serbisyo Agsurnon" was well-received by the local community, highlighting the collaborative efforts of DOLE and PESO in addressing the needs of Agusan del Sur's residents. The success of this year's celebration underscores the importance of providing comprehensive and accessible services to support employment and livelihood opportunities.
