PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur -- Various stakeholders participated in the
inaugural Naliyagan Tu Agsur Run 2024 in Agusan del Sur, as part of the
province’s 32nd Naliyagan Festival and 57th Founding Anniversary on June 16.
Some 675 participants were registered for the run, including 25 for the 12 km and 420 for the 5 km distances. Participants came not only from Agusan del Sur but also from Davao, Cagayan de Oro, Butuan, and other regions, contributing to the festive atmosphere of the Naliyagan Festival.
The event featured two categories: a 5-kilometer (km) run and a 12-kilometer run. The 12-km run commenced precisely at 4:30 AM, followed by the 5-km run at 5:30 AM and ended at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Gov. D.O. Plaza Sports Complex, Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.
Each category recognized the top 10 female and male finishers, rewarding the champion with P10,000. The second placer received P8,000, while P6,000 for the third placer, and P1,500 was given to the remaining placers.
Assistant Provincial Treasurer Melvin Tiu shared that the event promoted the advocacy on fitness and health awareness
“If you can see in the different media platforms like Facebook and news that these physical activities are present anywhere, like in Davao and Butuan, and motivated me to organize the same activity. I am thankful to Gov. Santiago Cane Jr. for approving this healthy event,” Tiu said.
He also appreciated the top management and Team Eddiebong for their support and all the participants who contributed to making the event a memorable one.
“Despite the short preparation time due to the impromptu nature of the event’s creation, thank you to the cooperation of the personnel from the provincial government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS), the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion (NSFI), and other supporters,” Tiu said.
One of the participants was King James Reyes, a Philippine athlete of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Para Games in Cambodia, who landed as the 5th placer.
Reyes shared his enthusiasm saying, “Enjoy the run."
Looking ahead, PGAS further expressed commitment to evaluate and improve the succeeding conduct of the Naliyagan Tu AgSur Run editions. (GGK/JPG, PIA-Agusan del Sur)
