PROSPERIDAD, Agusan del Sur – “More local government units in Caraga region have established their respective Persons With Disabilities Affairs Office (PDAO) this year, demonstrating support to the PWD sector in the communities.”
This was her statement of Ranita A. Castro, president of the League of PDAO during the recent Kapihan sa PIA held at SM City Butuan.
These LGUs have successfully raised the awareness about the PWDs and empowered them in today’s generation and continue serving them with the principle of equality.
“We have made significant progress with our present substantial achievements. Currently in Caraga, we achieved about 60 percent program implementation for the PWDs,” she stated.
Also, Social Welfare Officer (SWO) Oscar Alvar M. Fajardo of the Cabadbaran City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) highlighted the upcoming celebration of the 46th National Disability Rights Week from July 17 to 23, pursuant to Proclamation No. 597.

"As long as an individual is a PWD, we must pay attention to their needs, whether their disability is visible or not. It is not about focusing on weaknesses but on addressing the needs of the PWD sector," he said
“We are promoting a disability inclusive government. We are making efforts towards persons with disabilities, their families and communities,” he added.
He also disclosed that communities have warmly welcomed the PWDs as active members of society and contributors to nation-building, and are enthusiastic about participating in the weeklong observance.
He further urged the private and public institutions to practice appropriate disability sensitivity and added that CSWD has been conducting disability trainings, calling for the cooperation of the LGUs, non-governmental organizations, and national government agencies to amplify the advocacy.
