Caraga cops ready for rainy season

BUTUAN CITY -- As the rainy season sets in, police personnel in Caraga are taking comprehensive measures to prepare for any potential emergencies, according to PBGen. Alan M.  Nazarro, regional director of Police Regional Office 13.

In a memorandum sent to Police Provincial Offices, Butuan City, and Regional Mobile Force Battalion 13, PBGen. Nazarro directed the unit commanders to fortify preparations for the eventualities the rainy season may bring.

Among the actions taken were coordination with the offices of the local disaster risk reduction and management to identify areas vulnerable to flooding and near fault lines, as well as the conduct of inspections in areas near rivers and shorelines. Further, inspections of pre-identified evacuation sites were also conducted.

Police units were well-prepared, with all search and rescue operations equipment accounted for and ready for deployment as needed.

As part of Philippine National Police (PNP) Caraga’s disaster preparedness efforts, a disaster preparedness, search and rescue, and retrieval operations training was conducted on May 13–17. Another batch of this training is set from July 29 to August 2, with 50 additional participants.

“Preparedness can mitigate the impact of calamities.  With proper preparation and training, I believe we can rise to the challenge, minimize harm, and save lives and properties,” Dir. Nazarro said. (PNP Caraga/PIA Caraga)
