State U in Surigao Sur ground breaks facility on College of Medicine

TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) – The North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) marked another milestone with the groundbreaking ceremony of its College of Medicine Building at the NEMSU main campus in Tandag City on July 3.

The event signified the start of construction of the new facility to serve as a pioneer medical school in the region.

The proposed six-story medical building has a budget P95 million for phase I of implementation.

The establishment of the NEMSU College of Medicine was realized through House Bill No. 8825, primarily sponsored by Congressional Representative Romeo Momo Sr.

In alignment with its commitment to social responsibility, NEMSU also signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center (ASTMMC), designating ASTMMC as the base hospital for the college to provide the medical students with hands-on clinical experience in a real-world healthcare setting.

The ceremony was attended by House Committee Chairperson Momo on Public Works and Highways, Gov. Alexander Pimentel, DPWH 1st District Engineering Office Chief Ruel Bantugan, and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Education Supervisor II  Fredrick Amihan. They highlighted the project's significance in addressing the region's healthcare needs and fostering the development of future medical professionals.

The new College of Medicine Building is a testament to NEMSU's dedication to advancing education and improving community health. The facility is expected to be operational soon offering modern and advanced amenities and a robust curriculum designed to train the next generation of doctors. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
