DOLE-13 capacitates labor sector on freedom of association
BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Caraga capacitated the employers and workers from various sectors in Caraga region to promote a common understanding in the implementation of the Freedom of Association (FOA).
A total of 85 employers and workers, not limited to union officials, human resource officers, among others from the mining, agriculture, transportation, education, hotels and restaurants, and other services, attended the series of capacity building activities for the FOA.
DOLE Mediator Arbiter Rechell B. Apao discussed the roles and responsibilities of the employers’ and workers’ Sectors in upholding their rights. She emphasized the significance of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Supervisory Mechanisms and ILO Convention 87 titled “Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organize,” and ILO Convention 98 titled “Right to Organize and Collective Bargaining Convention.”
During the discussions, some participants shared effective implementation guidelines, strategies, and best practices related to FOA issues.
DOLE Caraga Dir. Joffrey M. Suyao expressed gratitude for the support of attendees in the capacity building activity.
“It is our great pleasure to welcome our workers and employers to this event dedicated solely to capacitate you on the principles of freedom of association under ILO Convention 87. Freedom of association is a fundamental right ensigned in international labor standards. It is not only a cornerstone of every democratic society but also a critical element in fostering harmonious industrial relations and promoting social dialogue. We believe that by embracing and supporting freedom of association, we can build a more inclusive, fair, and productive work environment for everyone,” he said.
