CPD-13 spearheads observance of nat’l family planning month

BUENAVISTA, Agusan del Norte --  The Commission on Population and Development (CPD) Caraga, in collaboration with the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga and other allied agencies and sectors, launched a robust campaign for the National Family Planning Month this August. Under the theme "Pamilyang Planado, Panalo! Tara, Usap Tayo sa Family Planning!," the initiative aims to empower couples and individuals to make informed decisions about their family size and timing.

Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano of CPD-Caraga emphasized, "Family planning is not just about limiting family size. It's about creating the future you envision for your family. We're encouraging couples to plan their children based on their financial capability, and young people to consider their readiness for parental responsibilities before marriage."

“This campaign aligns with Strategy No. 1 of the Philippine Population and Development Plan of Action (PPD-POA) for 2023-2028, approved by MalacaΓ±ang Palace through Memorandum Circular No. 40 on November 14, 2023. The strategy aims to promote and enhance the capacities of couples and individuals to achieve their wellbeing and aspirations as a family by enabling them to achieve their fertility goals within the framework of responsible parenthood and informed choice,” Dir. Makinano said.

Key highlights of the campaign include the community-based information sessions on family planning methods; youth-focused workshops on responsible relationships and future planning; free family planning consultations at local health centers; social media campaign featuring success stories of planned families; and partnerships with local businesses to promote family-friendly policies.

DOH Caraga Director Cesar C. Cassion added, "Access to family planning information and services is a fundamental right. We are committed to ensuring that every individual in Caraga has the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about their reproductive health."

The month-long celebration features various activities across the region, including seminars, health fairs, and community dialogues. CPD Caraga and its partners invite all Caraganons to participate in these events and join the conversation on family planning.

"Remember, a planned family is a winning family. Let's talk about family planning and build a stronger, more prosperous Caraga together,"  concluded Makinano. (May Ann O. Escobal, CPD-Caraga/PIA-Caraga)
