Surigao City celebrates charter day
SURIGAO CITY, Surigao del Norte -- Surigao City commemorated its 54th Charter Day on August 31 with activities celebrating the city’s history, achievements, and strong community spirit.
The day began with a thanksgiving mass at San Nicolas de Tolentino Cathedral, bringing together city officials, local leaders, and residents in reflection and gratitude. Following the mass, the grand float parade commenced from Gaisano Capital to City Hall, featuring vibrant floats and enthusiastic participation from various groups, organizations, offices, and companies, each proudly showcasing Surigao’s cultural heritage.
The Charter Day Program at the City Hall grounds was led by Mayor Pablo Yves L. Dumlao II, along with City Vice Mayor Alfonso S. Casurra, and city councilors. Key officials including Congressional Rep. Robert Ace S. Barbers represented by Bernadette Barbers, Gov. Robert Lyndon S. Barbers, Vice Governor Eddie Gokiangkee Jr., provincial board members, regional directors, and department heads also attended the celebration.
The program also featured messages from distinguished guests including Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Camille Lydia Villar-Genuino, and Commanding Officer of the Eastern Mindanao Command Lt. Gen. Luis Rex D Bergante.
The celebration concluded with the awarding of prizes for the best floats, highlighting the creativity and enthusiasm of the participants.
