Caraga gender advocates to join PCW’s levelling session

BUTUAN CITY -- The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) through its North Mindanao Field Office will organize a three-day activity dubbed "Levelling Session on GAD Mandates, Gender Analysis, and GA Tools for GAD Focal Point System Caraga Region Priority Agencies" from September 11-13, 2024 in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.
Atty. Khay Ann C. Magundayao-Borlado, executive director of PCW, shared that the activity aims to strengthen gender mainstreaming in regional line agencies by further equipping their GFPS.
"Participants in the regional levelling session will include regional counterparts from the agencies under the four priority sectors of PCW, including the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE); Women, Peace, and Security (WPS); Education; and Environment sectors," she said.
She disclosed that PCW aims to achieve the following objectives: 1) Improve the understanding of GFPS members on Basic GAD Concepts, Development Framework, Gender Analysis (GA), and GA Tools to support localization of the Magna Carta of Women (MCW) and enhance Gender Mainstreaming efforts; 2) Enhance ability to implement gender mainstreaming strategies for gender-responsive governance among training participants; and 3) Localize PCW’s gender issue initiatives in the priority sector agencies by implementing three regional workshops tailor to priority sector agencies, improving regional capacity to address gender issues, and ensuring 80 percent of participants apply localize strategies in their respective regions.
“The participating sectors are expected to accomplish the workshop outputs during the orientation-workshop; deliver actionable plans and follow-up reports; and submit post-activity report in a timely manner,” added Magundayao-Borlado.
Some members of the Regional Development Council – Regional Gender and Development Committee (RDC-RGADC) Caraga will also be participating in the said activity.
The PCW as the national machinery for gender equality and women’s empowerment is mandated to capacitate national government agencies to effectively implement Republic Act 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women and further their efforts in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment.
“Pursuant to Section 36 of RA 9710 or MCW, all government departments including their attached agencies, offices, bureaus, and all other government instrumentalities shall adopt gender mainstreaming as a strategy to promote women’s human rights and eliminate gender discrimination in their systems, structures, policies, programs, processes, and procedures,” she added.
