DICT-13 capacitates users on GovNet

By Jo Eufrey D. Felias

BUTUAN CITY -- The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Caraga spearheaded an orientation and training session for GovNet Project site coordinators on July 31 at the Pavilion Watergate Hotel, Butuan City.

The participants were taught on troubleshooting, networking, and end-user responsibilities, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of their roles in the project and a renewed commitment to advancing digital infrastructure in the Caraga region.

The activity substantiated the key topics on operation and maintenance, basic networking, fiber optic technologies, and the roles of DICT, Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), and contractors in technical support and bandwidth optimization, capacitating the site coordinators and participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage and maintain the network.

Engr. Cynthia V. Plaza, the GovNet project focal, delivered an insightful briefing of the project, emphasizing the dual approach in enhancing digital connectivity.

“For internal operations, government agencies will rely on the GovNet which utilizes fiber-optic technology. For the general public, various strategies, including provincial network (PROVINET) that leverages GovNet’s fiber as an internet source, are being implemented,” said Engr. Plaza.

“However, these services are exclusively for government use and are not available to private entities.” she added.

Plaza also highlighted the successful expansion of GovNet Butuan to the city's west side saying,  “By enhancing internet connectivity for various government agencies, the GovNet Butuan aims to streamline operations, improve communication, and ultimately provide better services for the Butuanons.”

“GovNet is operational here in Butuan City, and we have plans to expand the project to other provinces in the region,’ she disclosed.

Also, the session cited PIA Caraga as a beneficiary of the project and the collaboration of DICT and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in the effective delivery of accurate, relevant and timely information to the Caraganons.

"DICT Caraga supports PIA Caraga’s unique platforms, especially the conduct of the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas that requires reliable internet connectivity to sustain online engagement and to deliver grassroots communication," Plaza underscored.

Since its launch in 2017, GovNet Project has made significant strides in expanding connectivity and enhancing service quality, and with ongoing advancements and future goals as DICT Caraga remains committed to delivering reliable and impactful solutions for communities across the region.
