PIA, OPAPRU set to engage media practitioners in Caraga on gov’t localized peace, transformation programs

BUTUAN CITY (PIA) – The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga, in partnership with the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity (OPAPRU), is set to conduct a media briefing to media practitioners and government communicators in Caraga region on September 5-6, 2024 in Butuan City.
The convergence aims to enhance awareness on Localized Peace Engagements (LPE) efforts across all media platforms, with a particular focus on social media, and to showcase the successful reintegration stories of former rebels through the LPE and its Transformation Program (TP).
It will also highlight the government’s strategy on localized peace engagement to achieve peace with the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF).
Further, the Transformation Program is designed to meet the needs of former rebels, their families, and their communities, ensuring their full reintegration into society and contributing to the resolution of the local communist armed conflict.
Meanwhile, OPAPRU, in adherence to the mandate of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to sustain the strength and accomplishments of the national and local task forces to end local communist armed conflict (ELCAC), completed the rollout of the LPE and its Transformation Program to the provincial government units of Caraga region that kicked off in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Norte, including Butuan City in 2023.
The province of Agusan del Sur completed the rollout on April 2024. While the finale province of Surigao del Norte on June 2024 with exemption to Dinagat Islands as insurgency-free province.
Also, OPAPRU capacitated the information officers of PIA on May 2024, as the development communication arm of the government, for an effective communication of the peace engagement programs of the government. (RLE/PIA-Caraga)
