PNP turns over 122 solar street lights to Surigao Sur communities
TANDAG CITY, Surigao del Sur (PIA) – The Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (SDS PPO) Technical Working Group (TWG), under the command of Police Colonel Harry Domingo, alongside the Police Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development (PAGPTD) chaired by Gov. Alexander T. Pimentel recently turned over 122 solar street lights to the 19 communities in the province of Surigao del Sur under the project dubbed “ Ilaw sa Daan Tungo sa Kapayapaan: Pailaw sa Sitio.”
The punong barangays of the identified communities in the province received the said solar lights.
In his speech, Col. Domingo shared that the project's success was due to the collaborative efforts of various community stakeholders, including the provincial government and all its local government units that provided full support to the project.
"The implementation of the Pailaw sa Sitio is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together towards a common goal," said Domingo.
He added that the unwavering support and dedication of all involved brought this vision to life, saying, ‘These solar streetlights will be installed in areas currently without electricity, aiming to improve public safety and enhance the quality of life by providing reliable and sustainable street lighting.”
In conjunction with the ceremonial turnover, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Caraga through Provincial Director Romel Natad, who served as the vice chairperson of the Provincial Advisory Group, conducted a seminar on solar street light installation and maintenance to the beneficiaries.
“We, from TESDA - Surigao del Sur, in line with our mandate for skills training, and being a member of the Provincial Advisory Group, are committed to support this project through the provision of skills training to the barangays officials and recipients of the solar lights to ensure uninterrupted and maximum benefit of this project,” said Dir. Natad.
“With our drive towards TESDA sa Barangay, it is our goal to provide capacity building to barangay officials and workers like electricians, plumbers, among others to improve their skills for them to deliver better government services to the community,” he added.
The beneficiaries are the communities of Barangay Dapdap, Barobo (8); Barangay La Paz, Bayaba (7)s; Sitio Bunawa, Barangay San Jose, Bislig City (8); Purok Mam-on, Barangay Tubo-tubo, Cagwait (7); Sitio Toog, Barangay Parang, Cantilan (3); Sitio Bayabas, Barangay Hinapoyan, Carmen (8); Sitio Margsa, Barangay Adlay, Carrascal (7); Sitio Ambago, Barangay Burgos, Cortes (4); Sitio Cantabon, Barangay Sasa, Hinatuan (7); Barangay Mampi, Lanuza (6); P-6, Barangay Anibongan, Lianga (3); Barangay Rajah Cabungsuan, Lingig (7); Barangay Manga, Madrid (6); P-Rambutan, Barangay Mahaba, Marihatag (7); Sitio Talisay, Barangay Kauswagan, San Agustin (8); Sitio Barabuan, Barangay Carromata, San Miguel (8); P-4C Poblacion, Tagbina (7); Barangay Mabuhay, Tandag City (8); and P-Narra, Barangay Dayo-an, Tago (4).
Meanwhile, Police Community Affairs and Development Unit (PCADU) Chief George CariΓ±o recalled that the Ilaw sa Daan Tungo sa Kapayapaan: Pailaw sa Sitio started on September 7, 2023 at Sitio Lubcon, Barangay Mabahin, Cortes, Surigao del Sur where the community received six solar streetlights. The second turnover was conducted on March 18, 2024, with 61 solar street lights turned over to nine communities from the cities of Bislig and Tandag, and municipalities of Lingig, Carrascal, Barobo, Cantilan, Lianga, Madrid, and Lanuza.
The project continues to provide solar street lights to communities that currently lack electricity. It is designed to improve public safety and enhance the quality of life in these areas by offering reliable and sustainable street lighting solutions. (NGPB/PIA-Surigao del Sur)
