DA-13 releases over P10M equipment, agricultural inputs to farmers in Tagbina
TAGBINA, Surigao del Sur (PIA) -- The farmers from Sitio Greenfield, Sitio Anislagan, Barangay Kahayagan, Sitio 22, and Barangay, all in Tagbina, Surigao del Sur received over P10 million worth of agricultural equipment and inputs from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Caraga on September 4-5.
The local government of Tagbina, led by Mayor Glaiza Jane Polizon-Lanete, in partnership with the DA's team on High-Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) and the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM), provided each farming community in the town with specialized tools tailored to their respective needs namely:
* Greenfield Farmers Association was provided with a farm tractor with complete implements, a moisture meter, and bio-composting facilities to improve soil health and crop yield.
* Sitio Anislagan and Sitio 22 farmers association received complete bio-composting facilities to promote sustainable waste management and organic farming practices.
* Mabuhay Kahayagan Coffee Cooperative was equipped with a hauling truck to streamline the transport of goods and is now home to the only accredited coffee nursery in the Caraga region, fostering the growth of high-quality coffee seedlings.
* Maglatab Farmers Multi-Purpose Association also received a comprehensive set of bio-composting facilities to enhance their sustainable farming techniques.
These interventions are expected to significantly boost agricultural productivity and promote sustainable practices across the region. The program demonstrated the commitment of DA, the LGU and other supporting agencies to empower local farmers in improving their livelihood and ensuring food security in Tagbina.
The program implementations did not only enhance the capacity of farmers but also strengthened the community’s resilience against agricultural challenges, paving the way for a more prosperous and sustainable future for all. (NGPB, PIA-Surigao del Sur)
