DTI, PCIC orient Agusan Sur’s calamansi farmers on crop insurance
AGUSAN DEL SUR -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Agusan del Sur, in collaboration with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), conducted an orientation for 174 calamansi farmers on October 11 at the municipal gymnasium in Poblacion, Sta. Josefa.
This is part of the Rural Agro-enterprise Partnership for Inclusive Development and (RAPID) Growth Project interventions, a value chain-based development program aimed at increasing the income of smallholder farmers.
The orientation focused on the benefits of PCIC crop insurance, which provides financial protection to farmers against losses due to natural calamities and other risks. The program explained the different types of insurance available, the application process, and the claims procedures.
Lorie Joy M. Piencenaves, crop insurance underwriter assigned in PCIC Agusan del Sur, emphasized the importance of crop insurance in mitigating the risks farmers face.
“Crop insurance is a vital tool for farmers, especially in times of natural disasters. It helps them recover from losses to continue their farm operations,” she said.
The DTI Agusan del Sur, through the RAPID Growth Project, continues to work with farmers to improve their livelihoods and contribute to the growth of the agricultural sector in the province. (DTI-Agusan del Sur/PIA-Agusan del Sur)
