Stranded port passengers in Surigao receive aid from gov’t, local org
The day began with the comforting aroma of ‘arroz caldo,’ wafting through the passenger terminal building where 65 travelers took shelter from the inclement weather. The members of the Placer Centro Eagles Club, distributed steaming cups of the beloved Filipino rice porridge, offering both physical and emotional warmth to those waiting out the storm.
The generosity continued as the Surigao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) arrived with packed breakfast meals, ensuring a solid start to what could have been a challenging day. But the real surprise came at lunch, when employees of the Port Management Office (PMO) of Surigao pooled their own resources and provided the stranded travelers with fried chicken meals.
As the passengers continued to wait for weather conditions to improve, the terminal became a symbol of the enduring warmth of Filipino hospitality, proving that even in stormy weather, human kindness could create the brightest ray of sunshine.
