Agusan port police arrests passenger for illegal firearm possession
NASIPIT, Agusan del Norte -- A 44-year old passenger bound for Manila was arrested by PMO Agusan Port Police on October 9, 2024, for illegal possession of firearms, in violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591). The arrest occurred at around 5:39 PM at Nasipit Port in Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
During a routine screening, baggage security screening machine operators from Commander Security Services Inc. (CSSI) discovered a firearm concealed in the passenger’s belongings. Port police officers were immediately alerted and upon inspection, authorities found a .22 caliber firearm without a serial number, ten live rounds of ammunition, and a pen gun. The suspect was arrested, and a case was filed against the individual for violating RA 10591 at the National Prosecutors Office in Butuan City.
The Philippine Ports Authority emphasized the importance of routine security checks in preventing illegal firearms from entering public spaces. The suspect now faces charges under RA 10591, which imposes strict penalties for illegal firearm possession.
